Fleas

FLEAS

Fleas are bothersome insects that suck the blood of both animals and humans. There are more than 70 types of fleas, but the most common types are those found in cats and dogs. Fleas can remain inside their cocoons for several months and wait for any vibrations to become active. Fleas have strong back legs, which help them jump 150 times longer than their body lengths. Adult fleas can survive for more than four months without food sources. For successful elimination, you should enlist the help of professional pest controllers.

Flea control does not consist only of showering your pets frequently but also thorough vacuuming, preventing the invasions of pests under the floor, cleaning or throwing away animal mattresses, and calling professional pest controllers when necessary.

Bed bugs

BEG BUG

How to identify bed bugs?

Adult bed bugs are wingless and have an oval shape. They change from red brown to bright red after sucking blood. An adult bed bug can be 5 – 6mm long. A pupa is lighter and smaller, around 1 – 4mm long. Bed bugs have a flattened body, allowing them to hide in cracks and slits and making detecting bed bugs difficult.

How do they reproduce?

Bed bug eggs are laid in groups of 10, with a female capable of producing 200 – 500 eggs throughout its lifecycle. The egg’s hatching period takes from 7 – 30 days.

There are five stages in a bed bug’s life cycle. The pupa starts looking for food immediately. Each bed bug needs to consume enough blood to reach the next stage. In other words, bed bug infestation can be felt almost immediately. An adult bed bug can live from 4 – 6 months in beds and bedsheets.

Note that the development of bed bugs from the eggs to the adult insects occurs much faster in warmer months. An adult bed bug can even survive without eating for 11 months.

Signs of bed bug infestation

Bed bug infestation often leaves behind unpleasant odors, but the good news is that it does not relate to disease transmission. Bed bugs most often cause skin irritation and inflammation around the bitten areas, which can cause impressions and itchiness. Stains and blood spots can also appear on pillow sheets, bedsheets, and mattresses. The most typical hideouts for bed bugs are inside mattresses, spring lines, and bed frames. More serious issues may occur if bed bugs spread to behind the baseboards, windows, pictures, electrical panels, torn wallpapers, and inside furniture covers or the folds of Roman blinds. When checking for bed bugs, make sure to look for feces or blood spots. These will indicate the bed bug’s nearby hideouts.

How to prevent bed bugs

“The key factor in eliminating a bed bug infestation effectively is to identify their locations and fix all cracks and slits where they can hide.”

This is because while the repellent spray can be effective in bug elimination, it cannot kill all eggs, which can be hidden in areas difficult to approach. This also means eggs can continue to develop after what is perceived to be a successful cycle. Call us if you think your house is having trouble with bed bugs. Our professional technicians will perform an inspection, after which we will carry out thorough follow-up and return as necessary to ensure that bed bugs have been eliminated.

Ants

ANT

Ants are the most prolific group of insects. Ant colonies can be found virtually anywhere, in lawns, under rocks or wood logs, in decayed trees, under buildings, and in holes and hollow spaces on rooftops. Any location can become a place for nesting for ants.

Worker ants bring trouble as they travel far and wide to search for food. They are attracted by sweet or fat substances in the kitchen, cupboards, or warehouses. They are found to eat even bandages, dirty linen, and feces in hospitals.

Ants cause unpleasant sight in the food area and can spoil or stain human food. Of course, no one likes to be stung or bitten by insects. Some ants can cause allergies in sensitive people.

Harmful effects

  • Rove beetle bodies contain pederin – a toxic substance secreted along with their body fluids. If meeting human skin, pederin can cause blisters, burns, or dermatitis.
  • Symptoms: Red skin rashes appeared as streaks or patches, in the direction of the palm, slightly raised, with small blisters or pustules in the middle and some yellow-brown round or oval sunken spots.

Tips to prevent rove bettles

  • Use window and door nets. Close the door when going out and reduce light at night.
  • Keep the house and beds clean. Use mosquito nets. Avoid drying clothes overnight.
  • At apartment buildings: Arrange the light system reasonably. Use strong lights to attract insects in areas far from living space and soft, red, or yellow light in areas closer to the house.
  • Keep the surrounding area clean, especially the bushes or plant areas.
  • Wear a hat when going out at night or working under the light to avoid ants falling on the neck, face, or body.
  • Do not use bare hands to catch, kill or press on the ants
  • Do not touch, scratch, or squeeze the affected areas. Immediately wash the contact areas with clean water and soap after touching the rove beetles, then treat the bites with light antiseptic. If rashes appear, it is best to use saline to clean the bitten areas 3 – 4 times/day to neutralize the insect’s secretions.
  • Immediately come to health facilities for checking
  • Spray insect repellent regularly in public and greenery areas.
